- Holy Spirit Hospital 300 Bedded, Multispecialty Tertiary Care NABH Accredited Post Graduates Teaching Hospital, HSHINE with GNM, B.Sc. and Post Basic B.SC Course. For DNB course we had Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) registered by DHR (Department of health research) which is created as separate department within Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI, National Ethics Committee registry for Biomedical and Health Research.Â
- The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) is an independent body made up of Medical, non-medical, scientific, and non-scientific members. Its primary role is to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of human participants in clinical trials by reviewing, approving, and continually monitoring trial protocols and any amendments.
- The foundation of the IEC’s review process lies in conducting timely evaluations and upholding high ethical standards, which are crucial for clinical research. This includes overseeing student research, investigator-initiated studies, and multi-center, multinational trials.

Functions of Research Department
- To assist and guide DNB students in designing analyzing and preparing their Theses as well as in Publication.
- To encourage Consultants to participate in Clinical Trials and provide assistance in Publishing Research Papers, publications and also conduct in-house research Studies.Â
- To establish Collaborations with National and International Agencies for Clinical Trials and Funding.Â
- Help the Hospital to plan the Research agenda of the Institute.Â
- It will help in conducting basic Research, Clinical Research and Drug Trials.Â
Institutional Ethics Committee
The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) is an independent body constituted by an institution to safeguard the rights, safety, dignity, and well-being of human participants involved in biomedical and health research. It functions in accordance with national and international ethical guidelines, such as those prescribed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The IEC reviews and approves research proposals to ensure that ethical standards are maintained throughout the study. It comprises a multidisciplinary panel, including medical scientists, legal experts, social scientists, ethicists, and laypersons, to ensure a comprehensive and balanced evaluation.
The committee’s key responsibilities include:
Assessing the scientific and ethical validity of research protocols
Ensuring informed consent is appropriately obtained
Monitoring ongoing studies for compliance and adverse events
Protecting vulnerable populations involved in research
The IEC plays a crucial role in promoting responsible research practices and upholding the trust between researchers, participants, and the institution.

The Anaesthesia department at Holy Spirit Hospital in Mumbai started in 2018. The Neurology Department at Holy Spirit Hospital, Mumbai, was established in 2023. Department of Neurology deals with cases like Stroke, Epilepsy, Movement disorders, Neuro-immunological disorders, Headaches, Vertigo, Neuromuscular disorders, Spinal disorders, Neuro-critical care, Neuro-infections, Neuro genetics etc. We have a state of art Electrophysiology centre for EEG, EMG NCV, VEP, SSEP, BERA etc. Our department in collaboration with ER, Radiology department and Neuro-interventionists have designed a Stroke protocol for Acute Stroke patients reaching the hospital within window period for Reperfusion therapy in the form of thrombolysis and thrombectomy. We have a well-equipped state of art ICU for managing Neuro-critical care patients like Stroke, GBS, Meningitis, Encephalitis, Status Epilepticus etc. Ours is a Teaching Hospital having an active DNB Neurology program with well qualified dedicated Neurology resident doctors working under us for round the clock patient care.
